Clear Liquid Diet Foods Allowed. Acceptable foods on a full liquid diet include broth and strained cream soups, bouillon, milk, milkshakes, eggnog, soy and rice beverages and vegetable and fruit juice. A full liquid diet also includes milk and foods with small amounts of fiber.
The diet is also intended to keep the stomach and intestines rested. You also may have ice cream and other frozen desserts, ice pops, pudding and gelatin without fruit. Your doctor prescribes a clear liquid diet if you are about to undergo surgery or if you have been ill with a gastrointestinal illness.
Although the following are liquids, they are not allowed during a clear liquid diet.
You can have certain dessert foods on a clear liquid diet. Your doctor or radiologist might need you to have a clear liquid diet hours or a day before your medical imaging exam or procedure. You should avoid ice pops or gelatin that contain fruit or any added ingredients. A clear liquid diet consists only of clear foods and drinks that are liquid or partially liquid at room temperature.
