Food Stuck Under Gum Line. There may be a triangle shaped space or open contact between the 2 teeth and the gum line that would have normally been filled with gum tissue or tooth surface. Food getting stuck between the adjacent molars is sometime due to an open contact.
They may occur if a sharp piece of food gets lodged directly into the gums and causes an infection. Brush your teeth concentrating on the area where the food is caught. Usually you can move it with your tongue or swish it with your beverage and it comes loose.
An open contact that allows food to pack between teeth and gums can be caused by the placement of filling or crown that lacks the proper shape.
Gingival abscesses only occur in the gum tissue. However most of the time the offending food item tends to work itself out. They may occur if a sharp piece of food gets lodged directly into the gums and causes an infection. However there are times when a tough piece of food like a popcorn hull fruit peel or seed can get uncomfortably lodged in your gums.
